In 1997, GCI introduced SchoolAccess to help rural communities in Alaska achieve their mission of educating children and preparing them for lifelong success. Using video conferencing technology, SchoolAccess provides educators with the tools to bring curriculum to any classroom and provide students with learning opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable.  SchoolAccess boasts more than 30,000 endpoint connections throughout Alaska, New Mexico, Arizona, and Montana, and over 2 million minutes logged year-to-date on GCI’s video conferencing network.

Advantage Video is designed to meet the Universal Service Fund (USF) requirements for E-Rate eligibility for Internet access. Through E-Rate, federal funding may be obtained for up to 90% of the service provided. We maintain dedicated USF experts on staff to guide your facility through the filing process and to leverage all available benefits.

Government

In 2003, GCI established the State of Alaska Program Management Office to manage the delivery of voice, data, and video conferencing services to the state and serve as the primary management interface. Specifically, GCI is responsible for:

• Monitoring and managing the state’s voice, data and video network
• Maintaining the state’s PBX network
• Maintaining and managing the state’s current video conferencing systems
• Coordinating the maintenance and repair of the state’s stand-alone PBXs and key systems
• Supporting the state’s Cisco VoIP system
